Some productivity tips from the Mann
February 28th, 2006 | by Tim Wilson |I’ve been enjoying Inside the Net with Amber MacArthur and Leo Laporte. Their most recent episode featured Merlin Mann from 43Folders and 5ives. Merlin is best known for his personal productivity hints, often related to the Getting Things Done methodology.
Atypically poor audio quality aside, the episode has some good tips about managing large quantities of email (something about which most of us are all too familiar).

Thanks for the tip! I love Merlin and still have a thing in my heart of Leo. Does that make me a dork?

It most certainly does NOT make you a dork. A “geek” perhaps, but not a dork. There is a difference, though subtle.
Based on a quick Google check:
A “geek” is generally someone who gets very - well - “geeked” about technology, a TV show (e.g. LOST, Buffy), science, or some other technical pasttime.
A “dork” is is someone that takes it too far (e.g. believes “LOST” could actually happen). Dorks may also lack social skills.
I’m a technology geek, but most definitely NOT a dork.

I have spent the last month reading (actually listening - I downloaded from Audible.com) the Dave Allen GTD books and putting them into practice. I highly recommend them and 43 folders is a great ’support’ site for the implementaion

I read GTD and have actually implemented many of his strategies. Although I’m a major technology “geek” (see above), I much prefer a paper planner for my calendaring and “to-do” lists. I’m a big fan of Douglas Johnson’s D*I*Y Planner templates (available at http://www.diyplanner.com).
