A presentation podcasting solution
February 15th, 2006 | by Tim Wilson |I helped out with an Apple-sponsored podcasting presentation that we hosted at our high school today. Our local Apple system engineer showed a great application that I had never seen. According to the maker’s Web site, ProfCast:
ProfCast is the ideal tool for recording and publishing your live Keynote or PowerPoint presentation. All elements of your presentation, including slide timing and voice narration, are recorded. You can then publish your complete presentation on the Web as a Podcast, complete with RSS support.
I saw the demo, and it worked as advertised. This program could be just the ticket for a classroom teacher who wants to put some of his or her content out on the Web.

Tim,
I know you are busy and it’s tough to check out other podcasts, but one you might want to subscribe to is “KidCast: Learning and Teaching with Podcasting.”

On his (Dan Schmit) podcast from Feb 7 he talked about ProfCast and several other podcasting resources. He also runs a contest each month looking for the best lesson plans for using podcasting in the classroom. Worth listening to just to here some of the ideas people send in.

Breeze presentation is v similar to this - makes *really* good Flash-based presentations from PowerPoint - even down to embedding SCORM-compliant quizzes in them if necessary - audio narrations, animations, timing, all present and correct… - some examples from a K-12 institution here: http://www.macromedia.com/resources/education/article/k12_tfish.html

I’ve seen Breeze and it’s pretty cool. But as far as I know, you can only create them from a PC and that’s a problem for me since I use a Powerbook. Also, another advantage of ProfCast is that I can put the resulting video on my iPod. -Tim

You can create them from any platform as long as you have access to a Breeze Server. If you want to use the Breeze Plugin for PowerPoint, then you need a PC right now. However, I’m guessing that since Apple is eventually going to switch over to the Windows OS…that shouldn’t be a problem. ;P

Do you think people would watch the converted content on their video iPods more than on their computers?
